Welcome

Welcome to DFD. This is a blog Ive started to showcase my fashion design collections.

In order to interpret avant garde fashion in the South African vernacular, I re-thought the
mainstream fabrication, aesthetics and techniques that are used in the design and production
of commercial clothing. As literature states, in order for avant garde fashion to inspire
progression and innovation, it must oppose maistream styles of fashion and must therefore be
radical and extreme in its aesthetic approach. This is done, in part, by choosing textiles that
are not traditionally used in mainstream fashion.
To convey my ideas, the fabrication needed to communicate a connection to South African
society yet still be interpreted as modern. The fabrication that I selected includes human hair,
cotton waste, silk organdy and a variety of transparent meshes and stiff tulles.
